Stanwick & Co Furniture Care Guide
Our Stanwick & Co furniture is crafted with the highest quality wood materials and finishes available. While we've done our best to ensure strength and durability are the backbone of our designs, we recommend following this care guide at all times to keep your furniture in its best condition.
How to Clean Wooden Furniture
- Use a Damp Cloth - Clean the surfaces of your furniture with a soft damp cloth.
- Avoid Detergents - Do not use cleaning products on the furniture, only a damp cloth or use an Osmo Spray Cleaner if needed.
Osmo Wood Oil Treatments
All of our surface finishes are done with Osmo wood oil treatments, in either a matte or satin finish. Osmo has over 100 years of experience in manufacturing high-quality wood oils and delivers environmentally friendly, professional finishes for all aspects of interior and exterior wood.
To get the best from the wood oil treatment, Osmo recommends:
- Avoid Covering the Finish - Keep surfaces clear to maintain the finish.
- Ensure Good Ventilation - Proper airflow helps preserve the wood.
- Use a Damp Cloth - Wipe down surfaces with a damp cloth rather than cleaning products.
Osmo Spray Cleaner - For a thorough clean, use Osmo Spray Cleaner.
Farrow & Ball Painted Surfaces
For our furniture painted with Farrow & Ball paint, we recommend ensuring good ventilation and wiping down with a damp cloth for Farrow & Ball painted surfaces.
How to Care For Wooden Furniture
There are a few simple things to do to keep your English wooden furniture in the best condition.
Avoid Damp and Dry Areas
Avoid placing your furniture near extremes of temperature or moisture. Don’t leave your wooden furniture in a damp space, like a garage, or in a hot place, like next to a radiator. Wood moves as its moisture content changes. Where humidity is high, the wood absorbs the moisture and expands, and when humidity drops, the wood shrinks.
While it is completely natural for wood to expand and contract a little, placing your furniture in damp or hot places can make the wood move at faster rates, which can cause noticeable damage, like cracks and gaps in the woodwork.
Therefore, it’s important to avoid keeping your Stanwick & Co furniture in damp places like garages, sheds or attics for prolonged periods of time, even if you still keep the furniture inside the box it came in. You will also want to avoid keeping your furniture in very dry places, like by a radiator.
Maintaining Painted Products
We use Farrow & Ball's toughest interior finish - Modern Eggshell - on all of our furniture, whether that's on our tables or bar stools. Paint is quite forgiving because you can repaint over a surface at any time, making it look like new.
Repainting Instructions:
- Clean the Surface - Ensure the surface is free from grease and is dry.
- Lightly Sand the Area - This helps the paint stick better. We have already applied an undercoat, so you don't necessarily need to apply a coat of primer again unless you are doing a heavy-duty refurbishment and have sanded down to the wood.
- Apply Paint - Apply 2 to 3 coats of paint and let it dry overnight.
By following these care instructions, you can ensure that your furniture remains in excellent condition for years to come.
